Cycles of Matter in the Tundra

Carbon Cycle

The increase of carbon in the tundra is having a major effect. The carbon is reaching down into the soil when it is being thawed. The carbon gets so far down that it potentially destroys the permafrost. Also with the excess of carbon, there becomes more global warming. The increase of carbon leads to higher productivity and more carbon storage in plants.

How does the way that matter flows throughout an ecosystem differ from the way that energy flows through an ecosystem?

Matter flows through an ecosystem differently than energy. Energy flow has to do with producers, consumers, and others, while matter flow has to do with the atmosphere affecting all of the other factors in the ecosystem. The matter affects the atmosphere that travels to the plants and animals, while the energy starts from organisms and works its way to other organisms.
